From this view you can
see the mechanical devices in place to enable the Carroll Street Bridge
to swing open when tall boats pass. It actually works! One day I saw a
NY Water Shuttle go up the Gowanus Canal loaded with what looked like a
press entourage (or maybe they were real estate developers!). This
bridge continues to charm... is it that cobalt blue paint they always use?
