The brightly painted signs - that leave no doubt as to what business lies within - were literal eye candy. I probably walked by this spot a million times without paying much attention, but for some reason one day it struck me as a wonderful subject for a painting. Certainly the jaunty lettering and all the bright colors were an attraction. However, their appeal became more apparent in the winter during dreary gray days.
